# How do I place the sensor in the pot?

Proper sensor placement ensures accurate readings and long-term stability. Follow these steps to correctly position your substrate probe in the pot.<br>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Prepare the substrate

* Fill your pot with substrate up to the height where the sensor will be placed.
* Gently tamp down the substrate to ensure it’s firm and level. Check that the height remains correct after tamping.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
Position the probe

* Place the sensor in the centre of the pot for the most representative readings.
* Ensure the prongs sit flat and level, not angled, for consistent moisture and EC measurements.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
Secure the sensor

* Continue backfilling the pot with the substrate, ensuring the sensor stays in position.
* Tamp down the substrate as you go to remove air pockets and ensure good contact with the probe.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
Manage the cable

Loop the cable out of the top of the pot, keeping it secure and out of the way.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

By following these steps, you’ll ensure stable, repeatable data collection, which will help you make more informed watering and feeding decisions.
